About the multiplication wheel

Every multiplication problem from 1 × 1 to 12 × 12 is on the wheel, 144 in all, and none of them shows its answer. With all of them loaded each problem has a 1 in 144 chance (0.694%), and every label still fits on its slice. Under “Choose a list” you can narrow the wheel to one times table: 12 problems, each with a 1 in 12 chance (8.33%).

Each problem is filed under the table of its first number. That puts 7 × 8 in the 7 times table and 8 × 7 in the 8 times table, and both are on the full wheel as two separate entries. The page lists every problem under its table.

For a round that covers a whole table with no repeats, choose the table and switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. A problem then leaves the wheel once it has come up, so 12 spins finish the table. The Results tab keeps the problems in the order they were picked.

Ways to use this math wheel

  • Quick-fire round at the board: one student spins, the next in line answers.
  • Warm-up: choose the times table your class is working on and spin through all 12 problems.
  • Practice at home: a parent spins, the child answers, and you swap after ten problems.
  • Team game: every correct answer earns a point, and the first team to ten points wins.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the multiplication wheel

Is this the printable multiplication wheel worksheet?
No. A printable worksheet with a number in the middle of a circle goes by the same name. This page is a spinner: it picks one problem at random for you to answer.
Does the wheel show the answer?
No. Only the problem comes up. Saying the answer is the job of whoever spins, and the wheel has no way to check it.
Can I practice two or three times tables together?
Yes. Load all 144 problems, then delete the lines of the tables you do not need. Every problem that stays has the same chance as the others.
Can I add my own problems to the wheel?
Yes. Type them into the list, one per line, and each one gets a slice of its own. Past 150 entries the labels are hidden and the result window shows the problem.
