The wheel picked

About the coin flip

This coin flipper is a wheel with two halves, not a coin animation. One half says Heads and is painted sky blue. The other says Tails and is painted coral red. The two slices are the same size, so each side has a 1 in 2 chance, which is 50%, and the line under the wheel says so.

When you flip a coin to settle something, agree first who is Heads and who is Tails, then let one spin stand. For a best of three or a best of five, open the Results tab: it lists every flip of your visit in order, so the score can be counted there.

To choose between two people directly, replace the two words with their names, one per line. Your edited list is saved in this browser for this page, so the same two names are on the wheel the next time you open it.

What a heads or tails wheel can settle

  • Decide who goes first in a board game: one player calls a side, then you spin once.
  • Split two chores between two people: Heads washes the dishes and Tails dries them.
  • Pick between two movies for tonight by giving one to Heads and the other to Tails before you spin.
  • Break a tied class vote: write the two answers on the board under Heads and Tails, then flip.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the coin flip

Tails came up four times in a row. Is Heads due?
No. Each flip is drawn separately, and earlier flips do not change the next one. Heads has the same 1 in 2 chance on every spin.
Should I turn on “Remove the winner after each spin”?
No, leave it off on this page. With it on, the side that came up leaves the wheel and only one side is left.
Can I add a third option to the flip?
Yes. Type it on a third line and the wheel redraws with three slices of the same size. The line under the wheel then shows the new chance of each slice.
Are my flips still listed after I close the page?
No. The Results tab lists the flips of the current visit only. For a series that runs over several days, write the score down.
