About the A or B wheel

The wheel opens with 2 entries, A and B. Above the list are 5 ready pairs: “A or B”, “Option 1 or 2”, “This or that”, “Left or right” and “Red or green”. Choose one and it replaces whatever is in the list. For a green or red wheel, choose “Red or green”: it paints the Red slice coral red and the Green slice mint green. The other pairs are sky blue and yellow.

Both slices are the same size, so each has a 1 in 2 chance (50%). The line under the wheel shows that chance and recalculates when the list changes. The pick is not advice: it is a random choice from the two options on the wheel.

To spin for real options, edit the two lines so each holds one, such as Beach on the first line and Mountains on the second. Your version is saved in this browser for this page, so it is still there on your next visit.

Ways to use a two-choice wheel

  • Deciding who goes first in a two-player game: one player is A, the other is B.
  • Making it a this or that wheel: choose “This or that”, hold up two things, and call one This and the other That.
  • Picking which side of the classroom answers the next question: choose “Left or right” and spin.
  • Playing first to three: spin until one option has three picks, and count them in the Results tab.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the A or B wheel

Can I make one option more likely than the other?
Yes. Write that option on two lines and it gets two of the three slices: 66.7% against 33.3% for the option written once. The line under the wheel shows both percentages.
What if I have three options instead of two?
Add a third line. That makes three slices with a 1 in 3 chance each (33.3%), and four lines give 25% each.
If A wins three times in a row, is B due next?
No. Each spin is independent, so the chance is 1 in 2 for each slice every time, whatever came up before.
Does it matter which option is A and which is B?
No. A and B have the same chance, so the letters can go either way around. Just agree on which is which before anyone spins.
