About the gift idea wheel
The wheel opens with all 84 gift ideas. Under “Choose a list” you can narrow it to one group: “Handmade”, “Experiences”, “For the home”, “For a hobby”, “Small and thoughtful” or “For kids”. Choose “Handmade” when you have more time than money, and “Experiences” when the person has enough things.
The gifts are kinds of things, not products: a houseplant, a framed photo, a board game. The page recommends no product, names no store and earns nothing from any gift. The ideas were written for this site, not taken from a book, an app, a game or another website, and each one is listed on the page under its group.
To shop for several people, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin once for each person. A picked idea leaves the wheel, so no two people on your list get the same kind of gift, and the Results tab shows the picks in the order you spun them.
Ways to use a gift idea generator
- Get unstuck when you have no idea what to give someone.
- Spin three times and keep the idea that fits the person.
- Run a class gift swap in which every student spins “Handmade” and makes what comes up.
- Choose “Small and thoughtful” and spin once per guest for party favors.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the gift idea wheel
- Do the gift ideas come with prices or links?
- No. The wheel gives a kind of gift and nothing else. The budget and the place to get it stay up to you.
- Are there ideas I can make instead of buy?
- Yes. The “Handmade” list has 14 ideas you make yourself, from a handwritten letter to a painted flowerpot.
- Can I get random gift ideas for a child?
- Yes. Choose “For kids” under “Choose a list” for 14 ideas such as a kite, a picture book or building blocks.
- What if the person already has what the wheel picked?
- Take that idea off with the “Remove from wheel” button in the result window and spin once more. The idea is gone from the list, so it cannot come up a second time.
