About the job wheel
The wheel opens with all 84 jobs, from Nurse and Plumber to Animator and Park ranger. Under “Choose a list” you can keep a single field instead: “Health”, “Building and trades”, “School and science”, “Food and farming”, “Arts and media”, “Outdoors and animals” or “Safety and transport”.
The 84 jobs were written for this site, not taken from a book, an app, a game or another website. Every one of them is listed on the page under its field, so a teacher or a parent can read the whole list before using it. The wheel gives the name of a job and nothing more: no description comes with the pick.
For a career-day activity, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and give each student one spin. No two students get the same job, and the Results tab lists the picks in order, so you can match each job to the student who drew it.
Ways to use a random job generator
- Give a made-up character a job before you write the story or draw the comic.
- Play charades: spin in secret, act the job out and let the others guess.
- Play a guessing game where one player spins and the rest ask yes-or-no questions until they name the job.
- Pick a job to draw: one person at work, with the tools they use.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the job wheel
- Are all the jobs on the wheel real?
- Yes. Every entry names a real job, such as Electrician, Librarian or Flight attendant. There are no joke jobs on the list.
- Can I use it as a career wheel in class?
- Yes. Pick one field under “Choose a list” to match the lesson, for example “Health” for 12 health jobs. You can also delete any job you do not want on the wheel.
- Can I add a job that is missing?
- Yes. Type it on a new line in the list. It becomes one more slice with the same chance as every other job.
- Will the wheel tell me which career suits me?
- No. It draws one job at random, and with the full list each job has a 1 in 84 chance. The wheel knows nothing about you, so treat the pick as a prompt and not as advice.
