About the travel destination wheel
All 73 cities are on the wheel when the page opens. Under “Choose a list” you can keep one continent instead: Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America or Oceania. Each entry is one city, never a country, a region or an island.
The wheel picks a city name and nothing more. It does not know prices, weather, visas, travel advisories or your budget, and it looks nothing up, so treat the result as a starting point for your own research.
For a real trip, cut the list down first. Delete the cities you have already seen and the ones you cannot reach this year, then spin what is left. Your shorter list stays in this browser for the next visit.
What a random travel destination generator is good for
- Family vacation wheel: everyone types one city they would like to see, and one spin settles it.
- Geography class: spin a city and have students find it on a map and name its country.
- Story or drawing prompt: spin a city and set a scene or a postcard there.
- Pretend trip: spin three cities and trace a route between them on a map.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the travel destination wheel
- Can I spin for U.S. cities only?
- Yes, with a little editing. Choose “North America”, delete the cities outside the United States, and the wheel spins only the ones that are left.
- Where does the list of cities come from?
- The list was written for this site, city by city, and was not copied from a book, an app, a game or any other website. All of it is printed on the page under the continent names, so a parent or a teacher can read it through first.
- Can I add my own cities?
- Yes. Type each one on a new line, or press “Clear list” and enter only the places you would really go.
- What if it picks a city I have already visited?
- Press “Remove from wheel” in the result window and spin again. Each spin is independent, so a city can come up more than once unless you take it off.
- How many cities does each continent have?
- It varies: “Europe” has 14 cities and “Oceania” has 10. The line under the wheel shows the number of entries and the chance of each for the list you chose.
