About the date night wheel

The wheel opens with all 65 ideas, each one written for two adults. Under “Choose a list” you can keep it to one kind of evening: “At home”, “Out on the town”, “Outdoors”, “Something new” or “Low-cost”. A single group is a shorter wheel: “At home” holds 13 ideas, so each has a 1 in 13 chance.

The ideas were written for this site and stay clean: no bars, no nightclubs, no alcohol and no prices. Every idea is printed lower on the page under its group, so the two of you can read them all before the first spin.

Make the wheel yours before date night. Delete the ideas you cannot do where you live, then type in your own favorites, one per line. Your version stays in this browser, ready for next time.

Ways to use the date idea generator

  • Agree to do whatever comes up first, then spin.
  • Plan a month ahead: switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin four times.
  • Take turns: one of you chooses the group, the other spins.
  • Rainy evening: switch to “At home” and spin from there.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the date night wheel

How do we keep an idea from coming up again next time?
Delete that line from the list once you have done it. The edited list is saved in this browser, so the idea is gone on your next visit.
Can the wheel find places near us?
No. It has no idea where you are and it does not search for anything. It picks the idea, such as a museum or mini golf, and finding the place is up to you.
Can we send the wheel to each other?
Yes. “Copy link to this wheel” makes a link with the list inside it, so your partner opens the same wheel, with any ideas you added.
What does “Low-cost” mean on this wheel?
It is the group of ideas that need little or no spending, such as a letter, a crossword or a walk through a new neighborhood. The wheel shows no prices.
