About the food wheel
The wheel starts with all 67 dishes. Narrow it to one meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks or desserts) when you know when you are eating but not what.
“Cuisines” swaps the dishes for 16 kinds of food, from Italian to Caribbean. It is the better wheel for choosing a restaurant or a takeout order, where the dish gets decided later.
The list is yours to edit. Delete what nobody at the table will eat, add the family favorites, and the wheel keeps your version in this browser.
How people use a random food generator
- Ending the “I don’t know, what do you want?” loop at dinner time.
- Planning a week of meals: spin five dinners with “Remove the winner” switched on.
- Choosing a cuisine first, then searching for a place nearby that serves it.
- Letting each kid spin for one night of the week.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the food wheel
- How does the random food generator pick?
- Every dish on the wheel gets one slice of the same size, and one slice is drawn at random. Pick a meal above the list to limit the wheel to that meal.
- Can I use it to choose a restaurant?
- Use the “Cuisines” wheel to pick a kind of food, or replace the list with the names of restaurants near you. The wheel does not know your location and does not look anything up.
- Can I take off foods I don’t like?
- Yes. Delete those lines from the list. Your edited list is saved in this browser, and Copy link lets you send it to someone else.
- How do I plan several meals without repeats?
- Switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. Each dish leaves the wheel once it is picked, and the Results tab keeps the list of picks in order.
