About the car brand wheel

The wheel opens with all 52 car brands. “Choose a list” narrows it to one of 8 countries: the United States, Japan, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France or Sweden. The United States has the longest list, with 12 brands, and Japan follows with 10.

Before the list went up, each brand name was looked up on English Wikipedia, together with the country it is filed under. The page prints every brand under its country, below the wheel, so you can read the whole list before you spin.

For a group, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first turn. Each brand drops off the wheel once it has been picked, so no two players end up with the same one in a racing game, a drawing round or a quiz.

What to do with a random car brand

  • Drawing prompt: spin a brand, then sketch a car with that name on the hood.
  • Road trip: spin a brand and see who spots one on the road first.
  • Racing video game: spin before a race and drive a car from that brand, if the game has one.
  • Quiz: read the pick out loud and ask which country the brand comes from.
  • Make-believe: each player spins to learn what they “drive” today.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the car brand wheel

Is this site connected to any car maker?
No. The names are on the wheel only so that it can pick one. This site is not affiliated with any car maker, and no car maker endorses it.
Why is a brand under one country when a company elsewhere owns it?
The groups follow the country each brand is filed under on English Wikipedia. Its owner today may be a company from another country, and its cars may be built and sold in many places.
Does the wheel pick a car model or tell me what to buy?
No. It picks a brand name only, with no models, prices, pictures or reviews. A pick is not advice on which car to buy.
Why is a car brand I know missing from the wheel?
The wheel was never meant to hold every car brand in the world. The brands were chosen for this site, and you can add another by typing its name on a new line.
