About the random object generator
The wheel holds 60 objects that most people can picture without help, 12 from each of five places: the kitchen, school, around the house, outdoors, and toys and games.
Every object can be drawn in a minute and acted out without words, which is what makes it usable as a prompt.
Choose one place to make the game easier for younger players, or load all of them for a harder round.
Games for a random object
- Quick draw: one minute to sketch it, then the group guesses.
- Charades: act out using the object without speaking.
- Twenty questions: one player spins in secret, the rest ask yes-or-no questions.
- Story starters: spin three objects and tell a story that uses all of them.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random object generator
- How many objects are on the wheel?
- 60, listed on this page by the place you would find them.
- Can I limit the wheel to one kind of object?
- Yes. Choose kitchen, school, around the house, outdoors, or toys and games above the list.
- How do I keep an object from coming up twice?
- Switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. Each object leaves the wheel once it is picked.
- Can I add my own objects?
- Yes. Add one per line. It is a good way to build a themed set, such as things in your own classroom.
