About the what to draw wheel
The wheel opens with 100 random things to draw, and each one has the same 1 in 100 chance. Under “Choose a list” you can swap it for one of 6 groups: animals, people, places, everyday things, food or made-up creatures. Some ideas are a single thing, like a pineapple. Others are a small scene, like a yeti building a snowman.
Each idea names a subject and stops there. Style, size and time are up to you, so a cat in a shoebox can be a quick doodle or a full page. A few ideas ask you to look at something real: your left shoe, the view from your window, your own face for a self-portrait.
For a set of quick sketches with no repeats, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before you start. Each picked idea leaves the wheel as its result window closes, and the line under the wheel shows how many are left.
Ways to use this drawing prompt generator
- Start a sketchbook page by spinning three times and fitting all three ideas onto it.
- Spin twice and combine both results in one picture, such as a jellyfish on a spiral staircase.
- In class, spin once on the shared screen so everyone draws the same idea in their own way.
- Play a guessing game: one person spins on a phone, draws the idea, and the others guess it.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the what to draw wheel
- Is this a random drawing generator?
- Yes, for ideas: it picks one drawing idea at random. It does not make or show a picture, so the drawing is yours to do.
- Where do the drawing ideas come from?
- They were written for this site, not taken from a book, an app or a published challenge.
- Can I check the ideas before kids use the wheel?
- Yes. Every idea is listed on the page under its group, so a teacher or parent can read them all first.
- What if I don’t want to draw the idea I got?
- Press “Remove from wheel” in the result window, then spin again. That idea is gone from the wheel, and every idea left has the same chance.
