About the MLB team wheel
MLB is short for Major League Baseball, and every one of its 30 teams is on this wheel when the page opens. That gives each team a 1 in 30 chance, or 3.33%. The buttons under “Choose a list” cut the wheel down to one league (15 teams, 6.67% each) or one division (5 teams, 20% each).
The full list is further down this page, sorted into the 6 divisions: AL East, AL Central, AL West, NL East, NL Central and NL West. The team names were checked against the list in the Wikipedia article on Major League Baseball. The source and the date of that check are shown under the list.
To use it as an MLB team picker for a group, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first person spins. A team that has been picked leaves the wheel, so everyone ends up with a different team.
Ways to use a random MLB team generator
- Pick the team you play as in a baseball video game.
- Give each friend in a group a different team to root for all season.
- Set up a made-up matchup: spin once on “American League” and once on “National League”.
- Quiz yourself: spin a team, say its division out loud, then check the list on this page.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the MLB team wheel
- Can I spin for one division only?
- Yes. Each of the 6 divisions has its own button under “Choose a list”. Press one and the wheel holds only that division’s 5 teams, each with a 1 in 5 chance.
- What are the chances of landing on my team?
- With all 30 teams on the wheel it is 1 in 30, the same as for every other team. Each spin is independent, so a team that just came up can come up again unless you remove it.
- Can I add or take off teams?
- Yes. The list next to the wheel is plain text, one team per line, so you can delete teams or type in others. Your edited list is saved in this browser for your next visit.
- Is this site connected to Major League Baseball?
- No. It is an independent website, not affiliated with Major League Baseball or with any team, and not endorsed by them.
