Dice Roller
Spin to roll one six-sided die. For another die, pick its number of sides under “Choose a list”.
No spins yet. Each pick is listed here in order.
About the dice roller
This page shows a roll as a wheel, not as a tumbling die: each face of the die is one slice. It opens as a six-sided die, the numbers 1 to 6. Under “Choose a list” there are 6 dice, with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sides, and each one loads the numbers from 1 up to its number of sides.
The six-sided dice wheel gives each number a 1 in 6 chance, the same as one fair die on the table. Each roll is drawn separately, so earlier rolls do not change the next one. A 6 that just came up is as likely as any other number on the next spin.
Pick your die first, then leave “Remove the winner after each spin” off. A real die can show the same number twice in a row. With that box ticked, each number you roll would leave the wheel, and the die would run out of faces.
When a dice roller comes in handy
- Standing in for a die that went missing from the game box.
- Rolling in front of a class, with the wheel on the big screen so everyone reads the same number.
- Practicing addition: spin twice and have students add the two rolls.
- Loading “12 sides” or “20 sides” when a game calls for a die you don’t own.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the dice roller
- How do I roll two dice?
- Spin twice and add the two numbers. One spin is one die, and the Results tab lists your rolls in order.
- Is there a d20 wheel?
- Yes. Choose “20 sides” and the wheel loads the numbers 1 to 20, each with a 5% chance.
- What is the chance of each number?
- It depends on the die: 25% with 4 sides, 16.7% with 6, 12.5% with 8, 10% with 10, 8.33% with 12 and 5% with 20. The line under the wheel shows the figure for the die that is loaded.
- Can I roll a die with a different number of sides?
- Yes. Replace the list with your own numbers, one per line, and each line becomes one face. For a long run of numbers, the Number Wheel spins a number from any range you set.
