About the random number 1 to 10 wheel
The wheel holds the whole numbers from 1 to 10, one slice each: 10 numbers in all. This page has no ready lists to choose from, and it does not print the numbers a second time below the wheel. The list box next to the wheel holds them all, one per line.
Every number has a 1 in 10 chance on every spin, which is 10%. You can read that figure under the wheel. Each spin is independent. A 3 on one spin tells you nothing about the next one, and no number is ever more likely than the other nine.
To hand out ten seats or ten turns, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and let each person spin once. A number leaves the wheel once it is drawn and cannot come up again until the wheel is refilled, so nobody gets a seat that is already taken. Press “Fill the wheel” to bring all the numbers back.
Ways to use the 1-10 wheel
- A guessing game: one player spins with the screen turned away and the others guess the number.
- Giving a made-up score out of ten to a drawing, a joke or a dance move.
- Numbering ten review questions and spinning to choose the one the class answers next.
- Letting the spin decide how many jumping jacks everyone does before sitting down.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 1 to 10 wheel
- Are 1 and 10 included when I pick a number between 1 and 10?
- Yes. Both ends are on the wheel, together with every whole number from 2 to 9.
- Can I use a different range, such as 0 to 10?
- Yes. Change “Lowest number” and “Highest number” above the list and press “Fill the wheel”. Any range of whole numbers loads, up to 1,000 numbers, and negative numbers work.
- Is this the same as rolling a ten-sided die?
- The chances are the same. Ten numbers with the same chance match a fair ten-sided die numbered 1 to 10.
- Can I leave one number out?
- Yes. Delete its line from the list box and the wheel redraws without it. The line under the wheel then shows the new chance for each number that is left.
