About the random number 1 to 4 wheel
The wheel is cut into 4 slices of the same size, one for each whole number from 1 to 4. Every spin gives each number a 1 in 4 chance, which is 25%, and the line under the wheel shows that figure.
Four numbers with the same chance give the same odds as a fair four-sided die, so the wheel can replace one in a tabletop game. For anything else, decide what each number means before you spin: a player, a corner of the room, a group or a quarter of the year.
To put four players or four groups in a random order, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. Every drawn number then leaves the wheel, so three spins settle it: the number still on the wheel goes last, and the Results tab lists the first three in order.
Four-way picks with a 1-4 random number generator
- Four players: number the seats around the table and spin to see who takes the first turn.
- Four corners: number the corners of the classroom, let everyone walk to one, then spin to call a corner.
- Four groups: number the tables and spin for the group that presents its poster first.
- Four quarters: spin to choose which quarter of the year a planning meeting looks at first.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 1 to 4 wheel
- Can the same number come up on the next spin?
- Yes, as long as “Remove the winner after each spin” is off, which is how the page opens. Each spin is drawn from all the numbers on the wheel, so the number just picked has the same 25% chance as the other three.
- Can I change the range to 1 to 5 or 1 to 6?
- Yes. Set “Highest number” to 5 or 6 and press “Fill the wheel”. The page loads any range of whole numbers, negative ones included, as long as it has no more than 1,000 numbers.
- What if my four choices are not numbers?
- Give each choice a number before you spin. You can also type the four choices over the numbers in the list box next to the wheel, one per line, and the wheel redraws with them.
- How do I get all four numbers back on the wheel?
- Press “Fill the wheel” while the two fields still say 1 and 4. That loads the full range again.
