About the flower wheel
The wheel holds one list of 58 flowers in alphabetical order, from Anemone to Zinnia. Each is written by its common English name: Tulip, Sunflower, Morning glory, Lily of the valley. There are no groups to choose from, so every spin draws from the whole list.
These flower names were written for this site and were not taken from a book, an app, a game or another website. All 58 are printed on the page below the wheel, so a teacher or a parent can read the full list before a class or a party uses it.
For a made-up garden, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin once for each bed you want to fill. Each flower leaves the wheel after it is picked, so no bed gets the same flower twice, and the Results tab keeps the planting list in order until you close the page.
Things to do with the flower spinner
- Draw the flower the wheel lands on, from memory first and then from a photo.
- Name a team, a pet or a made-up character after the pick.
- Fill a pretend flower shop: spin six times and make a price tag for each flower.
- Play a spelling round where one player spins and another spells the flower aloud.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the flower wheel
- Are all of these real flowers?
- Yes. Every entry is the common English name of a real flower, such as Snapdragon, Foxglove or Forget-me-not. No name on the list is made up.
- What is the chance of getting one flower?
- With the full list it is 1 in 58. Every flower has the same chance on every spin, whichever ones came up before.
- Does the wheel show a picture of the flower?
- No. The result window shows the name of the flower and nothing else. Look the flower up yourself if you need to see it before you draw.
- Can I add a flower that is missing?
- Yes. Type it on its own line in the list and the wheel redraws with one more slice. The wheel takes up to 1,000 entries.
- Can I make a wheel of only my favorite flowers?
- Yes. Press “Clear list”, then type the flowers you want, one per line. An Undo link appears right after you clear, in case you did it by mistake.
