About the Magic 8 Ball wheel

The Magic 8 Ball is a toy that shows a short answer when it is turned over. This wheel gives the same kind of answer with a spin. It holds 24 answers in 3 groups: 9 that say yes, 9 that say no and 6 that are not sure. Every answer is listed lower on the page under its group.

The answers were written for this site. They are not the answers printed inside the toy. Every answer has the same chance, so a group with more answers comes up more often.

For a straight yes or no, delete the not-sure lines from the list before you spin. You can also type in answers of your own, one per line, and the wheel keeps your version in this browser.

Times to ask the 8 ball wheel

  • Ask silly yes-or-no questions at a sleepover and take turns spinning.
  • Use it as a story prompt: ask whether the hero wins, spin, and write what happens next.
  • Break the ice on a video call by letting everyone ask one harmless question.
  • Leave tiny choices to chance, like whether tonight is a pizza night.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the Magic 8 Ball wheel

Can the wheel really answer my question?
No. The answer is random, and the wheel knows nothing about the question that was asked. It is a game for fun, not a prediction and not advice.
What happens if I ask the same question twice?
You may get a different answer. Each spin is a new random pick, so the second answer can disagree with the first.
Can I use it as a Magic 8 Ball online with friends?
Yes. It works on phones and computers, it is free and it needs no sign-up. “Copy link to this wheel” gives your friends the same list of answers.
Is this site connected to the Magic 8 Ball toy?
No. The name is used here only to say what kind of answer wheel this is. This site is not affiliated with the toy or its maker, and is not endorsed by them.
