About the spin the bottle page

On this page a bottle spins in the middle of a dial, and the dial stays still. Press Spin on the bottle, or click the dial, and the bottle stops with its neck pointing at one section. The dial opens with 8 sections, Player 1 to Player 8, and each has a 1 in 8 chance, or 12.5%.

The first line of the list starts at the top of the dial and the rest follow clockwise. Replace the lines with your players’ names in the order you sit, and the dial matches your circle. Lay the phone or tablet flat in the middle of the group and the neck of the bottle also points toward a real seat.

For a round where everyone gets a turn before anyone gets a second one, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. A player the bottle has picked then leaves the dial, and the line under the dial shows the new chance for the players still on it.

Ways to use a bottle spinner

  • Pick who answers the next question at a sleepover.
  • Choose who takes the next dare, then spin again for the dare after that.
  • Decide who goes first before a board game starts.
  • In class, let the bottle choose who reads the next paragraph aloud.
  • At the dinner table, spin to see who tells about their day first.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the bottle moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the bottle turns, not the size of your screen. The bottle always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the spin the bottle page

Can the bottle point to the same player twice in a row?
Yes. Each spin is independent, so the player who was just picked has the same chance as everyone else on the next spin.
What happens when the bottle stops?
A result window names the player under the words “The bottle points to”. The page only picks a player, so what that player does next is up to your group.
Can we play with more or fewer than 8 players?
Yes. Add a line for each extra player or delete the lines you do not need. All sections stay the same size, so every player keeps the same chance as the others.
Will our names still be on the dial next time?
Yes, in the same browser on the same device. The names you type are saved in that browser for this page and are there on your next visit, but they are not shared between devices.
