About the wheel of doom

The wheel opens with all 53 slices from 5 groups: voices and songs, silly moves, faces and acting, brain teasers and safe slices. Every entry was written for this site, and all of them are listed below, so a parent or a teacher can read the whole wheel before anyone spins.

The doom is a joke. No slice uses food, a phone or anything that could hurt, and no challenge asks anyone to touch another person. The 6 safe slices mean not every spin ends in a challenge: one just says “Safe”, and another hands the next spin to a player of your choice.

To make the doom rarer, type “Safe” on a few more lines. Every extra line is one more slice, so “Safe” written on two lines is twice as likely as any challenge written once. For a game night with no repeats, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”, and each challenge leaves the wheel once it has been done.

Ways to play the wheel of doom

  • Go around a circle and let each person spin once, then do whatever lands before the next turn.
  • Press “Brain teasers” when the room needs to stay seated and fairly quiet.
  • Show the wheel on a big screen at a family party so everyone sees the doom land.
  • Add a few dooms of your own on new lines, such as a family joke, and the wheel keeps them in this browser.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the wheel of doom

Is the wheel of doom okay for kids?
Yes. The challenges were written for a room of kids, a family or friends, and none uses food, a phone or anything that could hurt. Every entry is printed on the page, so you can check them before the first spin.
What happens if I land on a safe slice?
Nothing scary. “Safe” means no challenge this turn, and some of the others let you spin again, choose the next spinner or swap your challenge with someone.
Can I take out a challenge I don’t like?
Yes. Delete that line from the list and the wheel redraws without it. The edited version stays in this browser for your next visit.
How is this different from the punishment wheel?
The punishment wheel holds forfeits for whoever loses a round. This one works on any turn, win or lose, and a few of its slices let you off completely.
