About the Pokémon type wheel

This wheel holds the 18 regular Pokémon types, from Normal, Fire, Water and Grass through to Dark, Steel and Fairy. It is a single list, with no groups to choose between. Each type has a 1 in 18 chance (5.56%).

According to Bulbapedia, a wiki written by fans, the games have 18 regular types and one special type, Stellar. Stellar is not on the wheel. If you want it there, type Stellar on a new line in the list. The types are also listed further down this page, with the source of the list and the date it was checked.

For a group, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before anyone spins. Each type can then be handed out only once, which gives one type per player with no repeats.

Ways to use a random Pokémon type

  • Spin a type and build a themed team around it.
  • Use the pick as a drawing prompt: invent a creature of that type.
  • Run a quiz round: spin a type and see who can name the most Pokémon of that type.
  • Spin twice and design a creature that mixes both types.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the Pokémon type wheel

How do I get two different types?
Spin twice. After the first spin, press “Remove from wheel” in the result window, so the second spin cannot land on the same type.
Can I make my favorite type more likely?
Yes, by writing it twice. A type typed on two lines gets two slices, so it is twice as likely as a type written once.
Can I take off types I don’t want?
Yes. Delete those lines from the list next to the wheel. The line under the wheel then shows how many types are left and the new chance of each.
Can a friend spin the same set of types?
Yes. Press “Copy link to this wheel” and send the link. Whoever opens it sees the same wheel, with any types you added or deleted.
