The wheel picked

About the random number 1 to 1000 wheel

The wheel holds every whole number from 1 to 1000, one slice each. It is full: a range of 1,000 numbers is the largest the wheel can hold. You will not find ready lists here or a printed list under the wheel; all 1,000 numbers sit in the list box next to it.

With this many numbers the labels on the slices are hidden: the wheel hides them above 150 entries. The result window shows the number that was drawn, so that is where you read it. Every number has the same chance on every spin, 1 in 1000 or 0.1%, and the line under the wheel says so.

For a large numbered draw, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first spin. A number that is drawn leaves the wheel and cannot come up again until the wheel is refilled, so no entry wins twice. The Results tab lists the drawn numbers in order.

What to do with a number from 1 to 1000

  • Draw the winners when up to a thousand numbered tickets are in play.
  • Play a guessing game: one player spins in secret and the rest close in with “higher” or “lower”.
  • Pick one numbered row from a long sign-up sheet or spreadsheet.
  • Spin a number for math practice, then round it to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the random number 1 to 1000 wheel

Can the wheel go higher than 1000?
Not past 1,000 numbers at once: that is the largest range the wheel can hold. The range can start at any whole number, so you can raise “Lowest number” and “Highest number” together and press “Fill the wheel”.
Can I use a shorter range, such as 1 to 500?
Yes. Type 500 into “Highest number” and press “Fill the wheel”. Once the wheel has 150 numbers or fewer, the labels show on the slices again.
Is 1000 itself on the wheel?
Yes. The range includes both ends, 1 and 1000, which makes 1,000 numbers in all.
Can I take out numbers that are already used?
Yes. Delete their lines from the list box before you spin, or press “Remove from wheel” in the result window when one of them comes up.
