About the random number 1 to 30 wheel

The wheel holds the whole numbers from 1 to 30, one slice each. This page has no ready lists to choose from, and the numbers are not printed in a separate list below the wheel. The list box next to the wheel holds all 30 of them.

Every number has the same chance on every spin: 1 in 30, which is 3.33%. The line under the wheel says so. Each spin is independent, so a number that just came up is exactly as likely as any other on the next spin.

For a class roster numbered 1 to 30, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first spin. A number then leaves the wheel once it is drawn and cannot come up again until the wheel is refilled, so every student is called once before anyone is called twice.

What a number from 1 to 30 can settle

  • Call on a student from a roster numbered 1 to 30.
  • Pick a day of a thirty-day month for a family outing or a surprise.
  • Draw the winner when thirty numbered raffle tickets have been handed out.
  • Choose which of thirty pages, problems or flashcards comes next.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the random number 1 to 30 wheel

Can this random number generator go beyond 1-30?
Yes. Type a new “Lowest number” or “Highest number” in the two fields above the list, then press “Fill the wheel”. The wheel loads that range of whole numbers, negative ones included, as long as it is no more than 1,000 numbers.
How do I get removed numbers back on the wheel?
Press “Fill the wheel”. With the two fields still at 1 and 30, it loads all 30 numbers again.
Can I draw several numbers at once?
No. Each spin draws one number. Spin again for the next one, and the Results tab lists every number drawn during your visit in order.
What if my class has fewer than 30 students?
Set “Highest number” to the size of your class and press “Fill the wheel”. The line under the wheel then shows the new chance for each number.
