About the random number 1 to 5 wheel
The wheel holds the whole numbers from 1 to 5, one slice each. Every number has the same 1 in 5 chance on every spin, which is 20%, and the line under the wheel says so.
There are no ready lists to choose from here. Instead, two fields above the list of entries, “Lowest number” and “Highest number”, start at 1 and 5. Change them and press “Fill the wheel” to load another range of whole numbers, up to 1,000 of them. Negative numbers work.
To put five things in a random order, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin five times. A number leaves the wheel once it is drawn and cannot come up again until you press “Fill the wheel”.
What a 1 to 5 number wheel can decide
- A made-up rating out of five for a movie, a snack or a drawing.
- A weekday, with 1 for Monday and 5 for Friday.
- Which of five players goes first, when each player holds one number.
- Which of five stations a group starts at in class or in the gym.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 1 to 5 wheel
- Can the same number come up twice in a row?
- Yes. Each spin is independent, so a number that just came up has the same 1 in 5 chance on the next spin.
- Can I spin for 0 to 5 instead?
- Yes. Type 0 in “Lowest number” and press “Fill the wheel”. The wheel then holds six numbers, each with a 1 in 6 chance.
- Where is the list of numbers on the page?
- It is in the list box next to the wheel, which holds all five numbers. No second copy of the numbers is printed lower down the page.
- How do I give one of the five numbers a bigger chance?
- Type that number on a second line in the list box and it gets two slices, so it is twice as likely as a number written once.
- Can I see which numbers have already come up?
- Yes. The Results tab lists every pick of your current visit in order. The list is gone once you press “Clear results” or close the page.
