The wheel picked

About the random number 1 to 50 wheel

This wheel is cut into 50 equal slices, one for each whole number from 1 to 50. That gives every number a 1 in 50 chance on each spin, which is 2%, and the line under the wheel shows the same figure.

The range is yours to change. “Lowest number” and “Highest number”, the two fields above the list of entries, are set to 1 and 50; type new values and press “Fill the wheel” to load, say, 1 to 30 for a smaller class. A range can run to 1,000 whole numbers and may include negative ones.

Running a drawing with fifty numbered tickets? Switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” first. A drawn number then leaves the wheel and stays out until the wheel is refilled, so no ticket is called twice, and the Results tab keeps the numbers in the order they came up.

Uses for a wheel numbered 1 to 50

  • Flash cards: number a stack of fifty and spin to choose the next card to quiz.
  • States: number the fifty states on a class list and spin to assign one to each student.
  • Reading: spin for a page number in a short book and start from that page.
  • Pick a number game: spin in secret, then answer “higher” or “lower” until a friend guesses it.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the random number 1 to 50 wheel

Are even and odd numbers equally likely?
Yes. From 1 to 50 there are 25 even numbers and 25 odd ones, and every slice has the same chance.
Can I leave out numbers that are already taken?
Yes. Delete their lines in the list box next to the wheel. The line under the wheel then shows how many numbers are left and the chance of each.
Will the slices still show numbers if I widen the range?
Up to 150 numbers, yes. With more than 150 the labels on the slices are hidden, and the result window tells you the pick.
How do I get all fifty numbers back after a drawing?
Press “Fill the wheel”. It reloads the range typed in the two fields, which is 1 to 50 unless you changed it.
