About the random number 1 to 6 wheel
The wheel holds the whole numbers from 1 to 6, one slice each. Every number has the same chance on every spin: 1 in 6, or 16.7%, as the line under the wheel says. There are no ready lists to choose here: the list box next to the wheel holds all six numbers, one per line.
Six numbers with the same chance give the same odds as one fair six-sided die. That makes the wheel a stand-in whenever a game or a worksheet asks you to roll one.
For a turn order at a table of six, give each player a number and switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. A number then leaves the wheel once it is drawn and cannot come up again until the wheel is refilled, so 1 to 6 come out in a random order, each of them once. “Fill the wheel” loads all six again.
Uses for a number from 1 to 6
- Board game with a missing die: spin on a phone and pass it around the table.
- Worksheet that says “roll a die”: spin here when there are not enough dice for every desk.
- Review game: number six questions on the board and spin to choose the one the next team answers.
- Math facts: spin twice and multiply the two numbers.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 1 to 6 wheel
- Can I change the range to something other than 1 to 6?
- Yes. Change “Lowest number” and “Highest number” above the list of entries, then press “Fill the wheel”. That loads whichever whole numbers you asked for, as many as 1,000 at a time, negative ones included.
- Can it stand in for two dice?
- Yes. Spin twice and add the two numbers, as you would with the dice.
- Why did the same number come up twice in a row?
- Because each spin is independent. Unless you switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”, all six numbers are on the wheel for every spin, and what came up before changes nothing.
- Can I see the numbers that already came up?
- Yes. The Results tab lists every pick of your visit in the order it was drawn. “Clear results” empties it for a new game.
