About the Christmas wheel

The wheel holds 56 small things to do in the weeks before Christmas, at home or in a classroom. They are sorted into 5 groups under “Choose a list”: “Make and decorate”, “Bake and cook”, “Games and fun”, “Kind things for others” and “Cozy evenings”. Spin them all for a surprise, or choose one group when you already know the mood.

These Christmas ideas were written for this site, not taken from a book, an app, a game or another website. Each one can be done the same day, and no entry names a movie, a show, a song or a brand. The ones that use an oven or a stove say “with a grown-up”.

To use the wheel like a jar of things to do, one a day, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin”. Whatever comes up is taken off the wheel, so tomorrow’s spin brings something new. Before you start, delete the lines that do not suit your home or class.

When to spin the Christmas wheel

  • After dinner: spin once and do that one thing before bedtime.
  • In class: one spin a day in the weeks before winter break.
  • Office or club party: load “Games and fun” and let each table spin for its next game.
  • A week of small good deeds: spin “Kind things for others” once each morning.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the Christmas wheel

Can I read the activities before my class spins?
Yes. All 56 Christmas activities are printed on this page under their groups, so you can read every one first. Delete any line that does not fit your class and the wheel redraws without it.
Do we need to buy anything for these activities?
No idea on the list asks for a particular product. The crafts use paper and things such as old cards, socks and a pine cone, and the cooking ideas use ordinary ingredients.
Can we add our own family traditions?
Yes. Type each tradition on a new line in the list and it gets a slice like the rest. The wheel keeps your version in this browser, family ideas included.
Can we spin only games for a party?
Yes. Choose “Games and fun” under “Choose a list” and the wheel holds only its 12 entries. Each then has a 1 in 12 chance.
