About the fruit wheel

The wheel opens with all 60 fruits, and each one has a 1 in 60 chance. Under “Choose a list” you can swap to a smaller wheel: “Citrus”, “Berries”, “Tropical fruit”, “Stone fruit”, “Melons” or “More favorites”, which holds apples, pears, grapes and other fruits that fit none of the other groups.

The groups are everyday kitchen groups, not botanical ones. A strawberry is listed with the berries because that is how people shop for it. Every entry is also printed further down this page under its group, so a teacher or a parent can read them all before use.

For a fruit salad or a smoothie, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin three or four times. Each pick leaves the wheel, so no fruit comes up twice. Delete anything your store does not carry before you start.

What to do with a random fruit generator

  • Choose a fruit of the week for lunch boxes or the classroom snack table.
  • Pick something to draw, paint or shape out of clay.
  • Play a guessing game: one player spins and describes the fruit, and the others name it.
  • Spin until you land on a fruit you have never tasted, then look for it at the store.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the fruit wheel

Can I spin for only berries or only citrus?
Yes. Under “Choose a list”, press “Berries”, “Citrus” or any other group and the wheel holds only those fruits. “All 60 fruits” brings the full wheel back.
Where does the list of fruits come from?
It was written for this site, not copied from a book, an app, a game or another website.
Can I take off fruits we don’t like or can’t eat?
Yes. Delete those lines from the list before you spin and the wheel redraws without them. Your edited list is kept in this browser, so it is there on your next visit.
What is the chance of getting my favorite fruit?
With every fruit on the wheel it is 1 in 60. A group wheel raises it: each of the 8 melons has a 1 in 8 chance. To make one fruit twice as likely, write it on two lines.
