About the dessert wheel

The full wheel mixes all 62 desserts. Under “Choose a list” there are 5 smaller wheels: “Cakes and cupcakes” (12), “Cookies and bars” (13), “Pies and pastries” (13), “Frozen desserts” (12) and “Puddings and fruit desserts” (12). Pick one when you already know you want cake, or pie, or something cold.

Each dessert is named by kind, not by brand, and the wheel stops at the name: it gives no recipe. Treat the pick as a decision made. Then find a recipe you like, or look for that dessert on a menu or in a bakery case.

For a bake sale or a birthday table, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin once for each person who is baking. A dessert leaves the wheel once it is picked, so no two bakers show up with the same thing.

What a random dessert is good for

  • Weekend baking: spin on Friday, shop on Saturday, bake on Sunday.
  • Eating out: type the desserts from the menu into the list and spin for the one the table shares.
  • Birthdays: let the birthday kid spin “Cakes and cupcakes” to choose this year’s cake.
  • Something new: keep spinning until the wheel lands on a dessert nobody at home has made before.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the dessert wheel

Does the dessert wheel come with recipes?
No. The wheel names a dessert and nothing else, so the recipe is yours to find.
Is a milkshake on the dessert wheel?
No. Milkshakes are on the drink wheel, and fudge and other candy are on the candy wheel.
What is the chance of landing on cheesecake?
On the full wheel it is 1 in 62. Spin “Cakes and cupcakes” alone and it rises to 1 in 12. Write Cheesecake on two lines and it is twice as likely as any dessert written once.
Who wrote the list of desserts?
It was written for this site and was not taken from a book, an app, a game or another website. Every dessert is printed on this page under its group, so you can read the whole list before you spin.
