About the random number 1 to 2 wheel
The wheel holds the whole numbers from 1 to 2: 2 numbers, one slice each. Every number has the same chance on every spin, 1 in 2 (50%), and the line under the wheel says so. No separate list is printed lower on the page, because the list box next to the wheel already holds both numbers.
There are no ready-made lists here. Instead, two fields sit above the list of entries, “Lowest number” and “Highest number”, next to a “Fill the wheel” button. They start at 1 and 2. Type other values and press “Fill the wheel” to load a different range of whole numbers, up to 1,000 numbers. Negative numbers work.
Before you spin, agree on what each number stands for: 1 for the first option, 2 for the second. For a best of three, keep spinning and count the results in the Results tab, which lists every pick of this visit in order.
When you need to pick 1 or 2
- Decide who goes first when two people play: player 1 or player 2.
- Choose between two options once you have numbered them 1 and 2.
- Share out two chores: 1 means you wash the dishes, 2 means you dry.
- Pick which of two teams kicks off, serves or bats first.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 1 to 2 wheel
- Is this the same as flipping a coin?
- The odds are the same. Two numbers with the same chance give the same odds as a fair coin flip, so this 1 or 2 wheel can stand in for a coin: call 1 heads and 2 tails.
- Can it pick a number between 1 and 2?
- It picks 1 or 2. The wheel holds whole numbers only, so nothing in between can come up.
- What does “Remove the winner after each spin” do here?
- It lets each number come up only once. After a number is drawn it stays off the wheel until you press “Fill the wheel” again, so two spins give you an order: the first number out, then the one that is left.
- Does the last spin change the next one?
- No. Each spin is independent, so 1 and 2 both have a 50% chance every time, whatever came up before.
