About the random number 0 to 9 wheel
This wheel holds the ten digits, one slice each. Zero gets a slice of its own, and 10 is left off. All 10 digits sit in the list box next to the wheel, one per line; the page does not print them a second time.
Every digit has a 1 in 10 chance, or 10%, on every spin, no matter what came up before. That makes the wheel a handy way to build a longer number one place at a time. Spin for the hundreds, then the tens, then the ones, and write each digit down as it lands. A zero in the first place simply gives you a shorter number.
For a set of digits with no repeats, such as a three-digit code for a classroom puzzle box, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first spin. Each digit you draw drops off the wheel and stays off until the wheel is filled again, so none can show up twice. With the fields still at 0 and 9, “Fill the wheel” puts all ten back.
What to do with a random digit
- Place-value practice: spin three times, write the digits in order and read the number aloud.
- Rounding drill: spin the ones digit of a two-digit number and decide whether it rounds up or down.
- Choosing who goes first: spin a digit, and the person whose seat or ticket number ends in it starts.
- Mental math warm-up: spin two digits, then add them, subtract the smaller one or multiply them.
How to use the wheel
- Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
- Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.
How the pick is made
Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.
Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.
Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
Questions about the random number 0 to 9 wheel
- Is 0 really on the wheel?
- Yes. Zero has its own slice next to the digits 1 to 9, and 10 is not on this wheel at all.
- Can I switch the wheel to 1 to 10 instead?
- Yes. Set “Lowest number” to 1 and “Highest number” to 10, then press “Fill the wheel”. The same two fields load any range of whole numbers, up to 1,000 of them, and negative numbers work too.
- How do I get a two-digit or three-digit number?
- Spin once for each digit and write the digits down from left to right. Leave “Remove the winner after each spin” off if a digit is allowed to appear twice in the same number.
- Can I see the digits I already spun?
- Yes. The Results tab keeps every digit from this visit in the order it came up, which helps when you are building a long number. “Clear results” starts that list over.
