About the drink wheel

One spin of the full wheel picks from 57 drinks. The buttons under “Choose a list” cut that down to a single group: “Juices and smoothies” (12), “Fizzy drinks” (10), “Milk drinks” (10), “Hot drinks” (12) or “Iced drinks” (13). “Hot drinks” suits a cold day and “Iced drinks” a hot one.

Nothing on this wheel contains alcohol. Each drink is named by kind and not by brand, so “Cola” stands for whichever cola is in your fridge and “Latte” for the one your café makes. The whole list is printed lower on the page under its groups, for a parent or a teacher who wants to read it first.

At a café, skip the list on this page: press “Clear list”, type the drinks from the menu board, one per line, and let each friend spin once. The wheel redraws as you type, and every line gets a slice of the same size.

When a random drink comes in handy

  • Dinner at home: let the youngest at the table spin for what everyone drinks tonight.
  • Hot afternoon: spin “Iced drinks” and make whatever comes up.
  • Cold morning: spin “Hot drinks” before you put the kettle on.
  • Party menu: spin once in each of the 5 groups and serve the 5 drinks that come up.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the drink wheel

Can I take the coffee drinks off the wheel?
Yes. Delete those lines from the list box, or spin a group that has none: “Juices and smoothies”, “Fizzy drinks” and “Milk drinks” are all coffee-free.
Is a milkshake a drink or a dessert here?
A drink. Milkshakes and the root beer float are under “Milk drinks”, and ice cream on its own is on the dessert wheel.
Is plain water on the wheel?
Yes. “Ice water” is under “Iced drinks”, and “Sparkling water” is under “Fizzy drinks” if you like bubbles.
Where does the list of drinks come from?
It was written for this site. Nothing on it is taken from a book, an app, a game or another website.
