About the roleplay wheel

There are four separate wheels here, and they never mix. The page opens on 16 settings, such as a castle kitchen at midnight. “Who you are” holds 15 roles, “What happens” holds 14 twists, and “Mood” holds 11 ways to play the scene. Pick a list under “Choose a list” to load it, spin once, then move on to the next.

All of the ideas were written for this site, for pretend play, a drama class or a writing club. None of them comes from a show, a book or a game, so nobody has to know a story already to join in. Spooky slices stay gentle, like a shy ghost or a toy shop after dark.

One spin per wheel gives a whole scene. Write the setting, the role and the twist on the board, give the group a minute to plan, then act it out. With several players, switch on “Remove the winner after each spin” and spin “Who you are” once for each person, so no two players end up with the same role.

Ways to use a random roleplay generator

  • Improv warm-up: a pair spins all three main wheels and starts acting right away, with no planning time.
  • Writing club prompt: spin a setting and a twist, then write the first page of the story.
  • Sleepover pretend play: each friend spins a role, then the group spins one setting for everybody.
  • Spin “Mood” halfway through a scene and play the rest of it in that style.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the roleplay wheel

Is this roleplay ideas generator okay for a classroom?
Yes. Nothing on the lists involves romance, crime, weapons or gore, and every entry is printed below the wheel, so a teacher can read the whole set first.
Do the settings and roles ever end up on the same wheel?
No. Each list is its own wheel, so a setting never lands on the roles wheel. Spin them one after another to put a scene together.
Can I add my own settings or roles?
Yes. Load the list you want to change and type new ideas on new lines. Your edited version is saved in this browser for your next visit.
Can I send a scene to a friend?
Not as one link. “Copy link to this wheel” carries only the list that is on the wheel at that moment, so write the setting, role and twist down and send those words instead.
