About the superhero wheel

All 59 entries are superheroes from American comic books. The wheel opens with every one of them, and “Choose a list” splits them by publisher: 31 heroes from Marvel and 28 from DC. Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and Black Panther are three of the names you can land on.

Every name was looked up on English Wikipedia before it went on the wheel: each hero has an article there, and the article puts the hero with the same publisher as this page does. On the wheel you get a name and no picture. Under it, the page prints both lists in full, one publisher after the other.

For a group that needs one hero each, turn on “Remove the winner after each spin” before the first turn. A hero that has been picked then leaves the wheel, so nobody draws, dresses as or plays the same one.

Ways to use the superhero wheel

  • Art club: everyone draws the hero the wheel picks, each in their own style.
  • Costume party: each guest spins once, and the name is the costume to plan.
  • A ‘who would win’ debate: spin twice and let each side argue for its hero.
  • Video game: let the wheel choose which hero you play next, if the game has that hero.
  • Trivia warm-up: spin a name, ask the room which publisher the hero belongs to, then check the lists on this page.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl+Enter while you are in the list.
  3. Read the pick. Remove it from the wheel if nobody should be picked twice, then spin again.

How the pick is made

Before the wheel moves, your browser draws one slice at random with crypto.getRandomValues, the same generator browsers use for security keys. Every slice has the same chance. The spin you watch only plays that result out.

Nothing about the animation changes the outcome: not how hard you click, not how long the wheel turns, not the size of your screen. The pointer always stops inside a slice, never on a line.

Your list stays in your browser. A link you copy carries the list inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.

Questions about the superhero wheel

Is this site connected to Marvel or DC?
No. It has no connection to either publisher or to the companies that own them. The hero names belong to Marvel and DC and sit on the wheel only as text.
Are there villains on the superhero wheel?
No. The wheel holds heroes only. For Marvel heroes and villains together, try the Marvel Character Wheel on this site.
Why is my favorite superhero missing?
Because the list is a selection made for this site, not a full roll of every superhero. Type a missing name on a new line and it gets a slice like the rest.
How do I spin only Marvel heroes, or only DC heroes?
Press “Marvel” or “DC” under “Choose a list”. The wheel then holds 31 or 28 heroes, and the line under it shows the new chance for each name.
